For the BJP, that's enduring the pre-poll predictions that the party will lose power in Karnataka, popular Kannada actor Kiccha Sudeep's support has perhaps come as an upper hand as the party aims to retain its reign amidst facing a tough race. Karnataka will go for the single-phase assembly poll on May 10 and the results will be declared on May 13.
The state has 224 constituencies and the opinion polls have predicted that the Congress party will triumph the elections with a clear majority. As both the parties are intensing their campaigns across the state with the national leaders from both the camps are boosting each other, BJP's campaign on Wednesday - April 26 drew attention as the party's roadshow had popular Kannada actor Kiccha Sudeep.
Earlier this month, the 49-year-old actor confirmed that he will campaign for the BJP in Karnataka. He further asserted that he won't be joining politics but would hit the ground to support the saffron camp's aim of retaining its reign in Karnataka, which is the only BJP ruling state in South India. On Wednesday, Kiccha Sudeep campaigned for BJP's candidate S Thippeswamy in Chitradurga.
The actor had a good reception from the fans and from the BJP functionaries and it has been reported that Sudeep's role in campaign would increase in the coming days. According to reports, the primary expectation of BJP from Sudeep's campaign is to reap the votes of Valmiki caste, to which the actor belongs. The caste is grounded rampantly in the Kalyana-Karnataka region.
Sudeep's campaign on Thursday has become a part of a culmination of BJP's campaign in Karnataka as the state had on Thursday witnessed the presence of several star campaigners of the party including Union Ministers Rajnath Singh and Nirmala Sitharaman and Chief Ministers of BJP ruling states of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath and Shivraj Singh Chouhan respectively.
