In a shocking incident, Tamil actor Siddharth was forced to leave a press conference in Bengaluru by a pro-Kannada group over the Cauvery water dispute. The actor was in the city to promote his bilingual film ‘Chithha’. The film is a thriller that revolves around the bond between a girl and her uncle.

The pro-Kannada group barged into the press meeting and shouted against Siddharth, accusing him of promoting a Tamil film while the Cauvery issue is ongoing. They also demanded that the film should not be released in Karnataka. Siddharth, who was very patient by the incident, left the venue without completing the press meet.

The incident has drawn widespread condemnation from the film fraternity and the public. Many celebrities have expressed their solidarity with Siddharth and slammed the protesters for their unruly behaviour. Among them was popular Kannada actor Shiva Rajkumar, who recently starred in Rajinikanth’s ‘Jailer’.

The star actor apologized to Siddharth on behalf of the Kannada film industry and the people of Karnataka. He said that he was very hurt by the incident and assured that such a mistake will never happen again. He also praised Siddharth for his acting skills and said that Kannada people love all films and languages.

Another Kannada actor, Prakash Raj, also took to X  to express his regret and anger over the incident. He questioned the political parties and the parliamentarians for failing to resolve the Cauvery issue and said that troubling the common man and artists was not acceptable. He also used the hashtag #justasking to raise his voice against the injustice.

He wrote, "Instead of questioning all the political parties and its leaders for failing to solve this decades old issue.. instead of questioning the useless parliamentarians who are not pressurising the centre to intervene.. Troubling the common man and Artists like this can not be accepted.. as a Kannadiga .. on behalf of Kannadigas.  sorry #Siddharth #justasking"

Siddharth, who has acted in several Kannada films, including ‘Rang De Basanti’ and ‘Bommarillu’, has not yet responded to the incident. His film ‘Chithha’ was released yesterday on 28th September 2023. The film also stars Nimisha Sajayan as the female lead and introduces a child artist, Sahasra, who plays the role of Siddharth’s niece. The film has received positive reviews from the critics and the audience.
