When Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was about to start from Delhi with the thought of no turnback without meeting the grieving family of the 19-year-old gang-rape victim in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, he got a special person to take him to the village, amid the tight security in the BJP ruling state. It was Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who took the driver seat to drive her brother Rahul to Hathras, as the Congress leader has started the visit the village for the second time in two days.

On Saturday afternoon, as Rahul Gandhi boarded the car, to everyone's surprise, his sister Priyanka took the wheels and drove a Toyota Innova while Rahul Gandhi was sitting in the front seat alongside her. Rahul Gandhi has led the delegation consists of the party's MPs and senior leaders. The Congress party said the delegation will meet the family members to hear their grievances & demand justice for the victim & her family who have been denied justice & severely traumatized by the BJP Government in Uttar Pradesh.
Amid the high security and the emergency laws including a curfew under section 144, Priyanka Gandhi took her brother Rahul inside the state with hundreds of party members surrounded the leaders to welcome them. The security forces had stopped the Congress workers at Delhi-Noida flyway as the Gandhis entered the area. However, ahead of the Congress leaders visit, Additional Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh Avnish Aswathi had met the family members of the victims on Saturday.
After meeting the family, Aswathi said, "We met the family of the victim and assured them that stringent action will be taken against the guilty. SIT is investigating the case. Statements of the family members being recorded". He further stated that the group of five persons from the Congress delegation can meet the victim's family.
As the state government has permitted five persons from the Congress delegation to the victim's family, the Congress leaders have been driving towards Hathras and according to ANI, there was a scuffle between the police officers and congress workers when the Congress leaders are en route to Hathras.
This has been the second attempt of Rahul Gandhi in visiting Hathras as, on Thursday, Rahul and Priyanka were detained by the UP Police for violating the curfew order. When he arrived in the state along with his sister Priyanka Gandhi and supporters, his convoy was stopped by the police following which he started walking on the highway and the visuals from the spot had shown the state police had unfolded the clampdown and there was a melee between the police and Congress supporters who alleged that the police had pushed and lathi-charged Rahul Gandhi.
