In a huge relief to the fans and admirers, World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev has released a video message concerning his health condition on Thursday, nearly a week after he had undergone angioplasty in Delhi.
The 61-year-old veteran cricketer had suffered a heart attack and undergone angioplasty surgery last Friday. He had complained of chest pain in the wee hours of Friday following which he was rushed to Fortis Escorts Heart Institute in Delhi for further treatments and he underwent angioplasty in the middle of the night and he was getting treated at the ICU.
Following the surgery, the hospital had issued an official statement on Friday in which it has said, "Cricketer Kapil Dev came to Fortis Escorts Heart Institute emergency department at 1.00 am on 23rd October with a complaint of chest pain. He was evaluated and an emergency coronary angioplasty was performed in the middle of the night".
The hospital further stated, "Currently, he got admitted in ICU and under the close supervision of Dr. Atul Mathur and his team. Kapil Dev is stable now and he is expected to get discharged in a couple of days". The 61-year-old cricketer has been one of the notable and reputed sport stars in the country and he was the first captain who brought global pride to India after winning the World Cup.
After learning that Kapil Dev was hospitalized, several reputed cricket players including Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, and Ravichandran Ashwin had expressed their wishes for the legendary cricketer for his speedy recovery and along with them, millions of fans had also wished him a speedy recovery.
Initially, the photo of Kapil Dev hospitalized on the bed was widely shared across social media. According to reports, as the hospital said, he got discharged after two days from his admission and for the first time after the discharge, Kapil Dev has, on Thursday, shared a special video message for his 1983 teammates.
Dev was seen dressed in a pink t-shirt and he was more active and vibrant like never before and thanked everyone for the wishes and concerns. In his video message, he said, "My family 83 (1983 teammates), the weather is very pleasant and I'm very eager to meet you all. I'm feeling very good. Thanks to all for your wishes and concern".
He further stated "I'm hoping that we (1983 teammates) all will meet pretty soon and I'll try to meet all of you as early as possible. We have approached the end of the year and I'm confident that we will have a great start to next year. Love you all". Ever since the video was posted, it has been getting widely shared across social media.
He had retired from cricket in 1994 and following his retirement, he had taken over the role of the Indian Coach for some time. However, due to the less breakthrough and he has become a cricket analyst, commentator, and philanthropist and he has been known for these roles currently. One of his key achievements includes the Wisden Indian Cricketer of the Century award that was bestowed on him while some of the other laureates include Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar.
