Watch: India's Olympic medal queen PV Sindhu comes home...Gets a rousing welcome in Delhi!

Two days after carving a glorifying history, India's Olympic medal queen PV Sindhu has arrived in Delhi on Tuesday from Tokyo with a pride and bronze medal around her that she won in the women's singles badminton competition in the Tokyo Olympics 2020. By bagging the medal, PV Sindhu has become the only Indian woman to win two Olympic medals in consecutive tournaments. 

PV Sindhu and her coach Park Tae-Sang have arrived at the Delhi airport on Tuesday evening and she was given a grandeur reception at the airport by the staff members and the general public. In a visual that has been going viral, Sindhu was seen walking amid a flood of commendations and compliments for etching a remarkable history. 26-year-old Sindhu has exited from the terminal of Indira Gandhi International Airport with a huge security escort as the nation watched the arrival of its Olympic medal queen. 

Sindhu had walked the stretch of the terminal by showing the Bronze medal to the people gathered there. She was received by the Badminton Association of India (BAI) General Secretary Ajay Singhania, along with other officials of the Sports Authority of India (SAI). Singhania had felicitated Sindhu and her coach Park Tae-Sang at the airport prior to their exit. The short and sweet felicitation was attended by the officials from the association and the members who accompanied Sindhu to Tokyo. 

Speaking for the first time after arriving home with a sparkling milestone, Sindhu said, "I am very happy and excited. I am thankful to everyone including the Badminton Association for supporting and encouraging me. This is a happy moment." It has been reported that Sindhu will later be travelling to her hometown Hyderabad and she would be getting a rousing welcome in her hometown.

Sindhu, though missing the finals in the Tokyo Olympics, has won the Bronze medal by defeating China's He Bing Jiao. she has become the first woman athlete to win two Olympic medals in the consecutive Olympics and the second Indian athlete to attain such a feat after wrestler Sushil Kumar - who the first Indian to win Olympic medals - Bronze in the 2008 Beijing games and Silver in the 2012 London games. It must be noted that Sindhu has won the Silver medal in the 2016 Rio games. PV Sindhu expressed that winning the Bronze medal in Tokyo Olympics was tougher than winning a Silver at the 2016 Rio Games.

Sindhu has been bestowed with the Bronze medal in women's individual badminton competition and brought cheers for her country for the second consecutive time, etching a history by becoming a prominent woman athlete of India at the Olympics. With her victory, India has got three medals in Tokyo and all three are from women. While the two medals -Silver (Mirabai Chanu) and Bronze (PV Sindhu) were awarded, boxer Lovlina Borgohain has assured the medal and her match on August 4 would reveal where she will stand on the medal podium.

Though there was intense pressure on her on Sunday compared to the scale at the 2016 Rio games, Sindhu has greatly managed and after triumphing over her Chinese rival, Sindhu said that there were a lot of emotions going through her head after losing the semifinals to Tai on Saturday but she worked hard to focus on the job at hand. She said, "It makes me feel really happy because I have worked hard so many years. I had a lot of emotions going through me - should I be happy that I won bronze or sad that I lost the opportunity to play in the final? But, overall, I had to close off my emotions for this one match and give it my best. I think I have done really well. It's a proud moment getting a medal for my country".
