Amidst a nationwide attention where the consecretation ceremony of Lord Ram Temple in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh has become the talk of the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has on Monday - January 22 inaugurated the temple in the presence of key dignitaries. Ayodhya has made a splash over the ceremony and the city has flanked spectacular decorations as it prepared for the event.
By successfully executing the 'Pran Pratishtha' of the still-under-construction Ram Temple, Narendra Modi has accomplished decades-long dream of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its parent organisation, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The construction of the Ram Temple on a site that once carried the now-demolished Babri Masjid has been a political propaganda of the BJP and Hindutva outfits.
BJP's top three political priorities were - abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu & Kashmir, construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, and implementation of Common Civil Code. After coming to power for the second straight time in 2019, the party, with a majority mark, has scrapped the Article 370 and recently had a backing for revoking the Article from the Supreme Court.
Now, three months ahead of the crucial general election, the party has accomplished its second top priority of constructing a Ram Temple. In an apparent display of his non-secularism, Prime Minister Modi was in a forefront in the party's campaign of building Ram Temple. An army of his ministers and followers built a momentum around it and made it as a national sentiment.
In 2020, Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, months after a constitutional bench of the Supreme Court awarded the disputed site to Hindus to build Ram Temple. The groundbreaking ceremony was done with an objective of inaugurating the temple before the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. The constructions were paced up, but not in a fashion to deadline.
As the polls neared and as the northen states hold a significant support to the BJP, the party has decided to inaugurate the temple despite the constructions were incomplete, with the view of reaping a remarkable vote bank in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Arrangements were made swiftly and the Prime Minister embarked on a spiritual tour after it was announced that the Ram Temple would be inaugurated on January 22.
Prime Minister Modi visited some of the important temples in the country and finally, he arrived in Ayodhya on Monday to grace the occasion of Ram Temple's consecretation. Though it is a religious-based event, the inauguration had a mileage of being a national festival and thousands of people, from political leaders, business tycoons, and celebrities have arrived in Ayodhya to witness the welcoming of Lord Ram.
The Ram Lalla idol was sculpted by Arun Yogiraj, a Mysuru based sculptor. The deity was placed in the temple recently and on January 22, the Pran Prathistha' took place amidst a national watch. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat were in the sanctum sanctorum along with a handful of seers of the Ram Janmabhoomi Trust.
During the ceremony, Modi was seen chanting mantras and during the time prescribed by the saints, the Pran Prathistha was done after which the eyes of the Ram Lalla idol were symbolically opened for the first time. The consecretion took place in a grandeur manner despite staunch objections from some Sankaracharyas who expressed their dissent for inaugurating the temple while the construction is still incomplete.
As Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the first to pay floral respect to the idol, the first visuals of the idol have been going viral on social media. Among the participants were industrialists Mukesh Ambani, Anil Ambani, Sunil Bharti Mittal, and Kumar Mangalam Birla, and former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, Indian actors Amitabh Bachchan, Rajinikanth, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Katrina Kaif. It is pertinent to note that the construction of the temple is expected to get over by the end of this year.
