Voters verdict: A big gain for BJP again in four states while the hands of Congress turn blue!

BJP has broken the predictions of the anti-incumbency wave in four of its-already ruling states as the saffron party is inching closer to retaining the reign in these four states, particularly Uttar Pradesh. The results of crucial assembly polls in five states - Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, Manipur, and Punjab have been making headlines across the nation since the morning hours of Monday - March 10. The verdict of the voters has been getting revealed in every round of the vote counting.

The polls in these five states ran for nearly a month with seven phases in Uttar Pradesh alone. While the BJP has been one of the top contenders, the Congress party has lost the tag of the major arch-rival of the BJP in the polls as several parties including Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party and Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress party had joined the battle for the ballots. As the last assembly polls ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the verdict of the voters in these states was keenly awaited.

The vote counting for the five states had begun on Thursday and since the start, BJP has been leading in four of the five states. BJP's triumph in Uttar Pradesh would give more advantage for the party to face the 2024 Lok Sabha polls with the national front against BJP is still on the card. While the official results are being expected on Thursday evening, the current trends have vividly shown that the BJP has got the majority mark in four states and the Congress has been bracing up a downfall in all the states, which is indisputably not a good sign for the party though it has been leading in some constituencies.

With a major debacle, the hands of Congress have turned blue. Uttar Pradesh has 403 assembly constituencies and according to the Election Commission of India, of these 403 seats, the votes recorded at 399 seats were counted of which BJP has been leading in 247 seats, nearly five seats more than the majority mark. The Samajwadi party has been leading in 114 seats. Shockingly, the Congress party is leading in only 2 seats in India's biggest state. The national party has scored an all-time low in its history in Uttar Pradesh.

In Goa, BJP has been leading 19 seats of the total 40 seats, two seats below the majority, which the party can win from independents as it continues to reign the state. On the other hand, the Congress party is leading in 11 seats while Aam Aadmi Party has been leading in two seats. In Manipur, early trends show a thumping victory for BJP. This Northeast Indian state has 60 assembly seats of which the votes recorded at 41 were counted and of these 41, BJP has officially won one seat and leading in 21 seats. The contenders are far from BJP's margin as the Manipurians have given second consecutive term for BJP.

In Uttarkhand, Congress has some relieving news as the party would sit on the opposition. As per the tally released by the Election Commission, of the total 70 seats, BJP has been leading in 43 seats, more than the majority mark while Congress has been leading in 24 seats. The official results are yet to be made public and taking the trend as the treat, the BJP cadres have been celebrating across the country as the party records a clean sweep in the midst of several allegations.

Bad news for BJP from Punjab and the similar scale applies to Congress as well, as both the parties were overthrown from the victory track by Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party. For the first time in its history, Aam Aadmi Party is all set to form the government outside Delhi and the cadres and political observers acknowledge that AAP is emerging as the strong contender against the BJP. Out of 117 seats in Punjab, Aam Aadmi is nearing a landslide victory by leading in 91 seats. While Congress is leading in 17 seats, BJP is leading in two seats.

The verdict of voters favoured BJP and for Congress, it has become yet another prospect for introspection. Though the Congress can sit in opposition in three states - Punjab, Goa, and Uttarakhand, one of the shocking takeaways of the party is that its rule has been ousted from Punjab by the regional Aam Aadmi Party and Arvind Kejriwal has collapsed Congress's decades-old base in Punjab. Several Congress leaders have been trailing in all these states.

BJP has been celebrating the victory and making the celebrations pan India. The party leaders are taking the token of victory as Modi's leadership and welfare schemes. Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said, "BJP will form the government in Goa; We will take MGP and independent candidates with us." "The credit for this win goes to the party workers. BJP will form the govt in Goa", he added.
