The voice of 'Ovvuru Pookalume' has left the world by leaving the everlasting inspiration through the song that remains to be an energy booster to date. Popular singer Komagan has passed away on Thursday in Chennai due to the COVID-19 viral infection. Komagan's untimely demise has shocked the entire industry and the fans and fraternities are paying tribute to the deceased artist.
According to reports, Komagan was getting treated at a private hospital in Chennai after testing positive for the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the efforts to save him, he had breathed his last at around 1 am on Thursday. A native of Nagercoil, Komagan was suffering the visibility disorder and was initially working in the National Association for the Blind in Madhavaram, Chennai.
During his tenure in the association, he fell in love with Anitha, who worked as the mobility inspector at the Association and they married against the wish of both the families. The couple had two sons Monis and Movin. Being gifted with a good singing skill by birth, Komagan was interested in singing and he also was running the band under the name of 'Komaganin Ragapriya', which comprised of the singers who suffered from visibility disorder.
Komagan rose to popularity through Cheran-directorial 'Autograph' movie, which was released in 2004. According to reports, director Cheran had seen Komagan singing in the events post which he had given him a chance to sing in the Autograph movie. It was this movie that brought Komagan to the larger audience and no one can forget the 'Ovvuru Pokkalume' song which to date remains as the everlasting and inspirational song.
On the screen, the song was sung by actor Sneha and Komagan would appear in the last scene of the song and he would take everyone into a very emotional mood. The song has received immense reputation and Paa. Vijay, who wrote the song, and Chitra, who sung, were conferred with the national award. It was one of the factors that kept the movie running for more days. Following Autograph, Komagan had also got the prospect of composing music for some of the Tamil movies.
He then had worked in the Integrated Coach Factory in Chennai under the government's reservation for physically disabled people. Besides working, he also had conducted some musical events and in 2019, the Tamil Nadu government has bestowed the 'Kalaimamani Award' for him, which is the state's top award for the cinema. He had developed symptoms for the COVID-19 viral infection two weeks back and he was initially getting treated in a private hospital in Chennai after testing positive.
Though he was getting treatment in a private hospital, there was no improvement in his health condition after which he was admitted to the ICF hospital in Ayanavaram in Chennai two days ago for further treatments. However, despite the efforts to save him, Komagan had breathed his last in the wee hours of Thursday due to COVID-19. Komagan had also served as the Commissionerate for Welfare of the Differently Abled.
He was suffering from a 50% of COVID infection and his demise had saddened the Tamil cinema industry. Ever since the news of his demise broke out, several fans and celebrities have been paying their tribute to the departed singer and expressing their condolences to the family members. Director Cheran said, "No words to say...A human who had confidence in his heart and in his voice. He (Komagan) was the eyes of 25 families associated with his band. This news (of his demise), which I heard after I woke up this morning, breaks the heart. May Komagan's soul rest in peace."
