As VK Sasikala would be ending her four-year prison sentence and getting released on Wednesday - January 27, the closest aide of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has been surfaced with mounting speculations on her political resurgence, when she will arrive in Chennai and where she would be staying in the city. Sasikala has now been hospitalized in Bangalore after she has tested positive for COVID-19 viral infection.
Sasikala has been serving a four-year prison sentence in Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in Bangalore since February 2017 after getting convicted for Disproportionate Assets Case and earlier last week, it was confirmed that she would be getting released on January 27. However, a week before her release, she had developed discomforts to her health and complained of breathing difficulty, and currently, she has been getting treated in Victoria Hospital in the city where she tested positive for the pandemic. In the recent health update, the hospital said she is doing stable and comfortable and her viral infection is getting reduced.
Amid such developments, there have been strong speculations on where she could stay after her release. According to reports, it's confirmed that Sasikala would be staying in T Nagar in Chennai, and No 179, Habibullah Road, T Nagar will be her new address. Sasikala's niece Krishnapriya is currently staying at this address and arrangements have been made to accommodate the expelled ADMK leader after her release. It must be noted that Sasikala had stayed in the same residence when she came out of prison for few days after getting parole in 2017.
While it was speculated that Sasikala will be staying in Veda Nilayam, Poes Garden, where Jayalalithaa resided, the expelled leader has been pushed to find shelter in some other place after the Edappadi Palaniswami led state government has passed the order of converting Jayalalithaa's residence into her memorial and it will be opened for the public tour from January 28. Sasikala had also constructed a new property opposite Veda Nilayam to live after her release.
However, the Income Tax Department has attached Sasikala's lavish property and sealed it under the grounds of the Benami Prohibition Act. With unwelcoming Poes Garden, Sasikala has decided to reside in T Nagar and arrangements have been made to welcome her and the reports say that this residence in T Nagar would become her permanent residence after her release. On Monday, AMMK leader and Sasikala's nephew TTV Dhinakaran tweeted that Sasikala would be released from prison on January 27.
While the reports say that Sasikala would return to Chennai in the first week of February, Dhinakaran said, "As the COVID-19 infection has reduced considerably and her health is improving, we will consult the treating doctors about her discharge from hospital and announce her return to Chennai later". According to a news agency, Sasikala's lawyers had prepared all the necessary documents for her release from prison.
Her counsel Raja Senthoor Pandian said, "We have submitted the application to the prison authorities to obtain a certificate that Sasikala has completed her four-year sentence". While her release would trouble the ADMK, on the other hand, Dhinakaran's AMMK has made preparations to offer a grand welcome to Sasikala from the state border to Chennai as, drawing more significance, she would be getting released ahead of the Tamil Nadu assembly polls. While Sasikala will be released on January 27, her relative Ilavarasi, who is also serving a four-year prison sentence in the same prison for the same case, will be released on February 5 and it is expected that Ilavarasi will also be staying in T Nagar residence along with Sasikala.
