Amid the strong speculations of whether VK Sasikala will plunge into active politics and whether she will be contesting in the upcoming polls in Tamil Nadu, Sasikala's nephew and AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran has on Friday sent a huge shock for the ADMK leaders by asserting that Sasikala is ready for contesting in the assembly polls.
Speaking to the reporters after offering prayers in Tenkasi in southern Tamil Nadu, Dhinakaran said, "We won't let DMK come to power. Sasikala will definitely contest in the upcoming assembly polls". By throwing a bombshell at the ADMK leaders, Dhinakaran hadn't divulged that from which party she would contest in the polls. Dhinakaran's announcement has come when the ADMK leaders are building a fortress around the party to block the entry of Sasikala into the party.
Responding to ADMK's police complaint against VK Sasikala for illegally using the party's flag in her car, Dhinakaran said, "They (ADMK leaders) can't do anything even if they go and file a complaint with the Commanders of the Armed Forces". On Thursday, ADMK leaders including some senior ministers had filed a police complaint with the Director-General of Police.
Tamil Nadu Ministers Jayakumar, Thangamani, Velumani, and CV Shanmugam, ADMK Presidium Chairman Madhusudhanan, senior ADMK leaders KP Munusamy, Natham Viswanathan, and some of the legislators in Chennai had arrived in the DGP's office in the evening hours of Thursday. Unfolding a high-level drama, ADMK leader KP Munusamy had addressed the reporters during which he said that Sasikala won't have any moral rights to use ADMK's flag.
In the complaint, the leaders had urged the police to take action that Sasikala won't be using the ADMK flag in the future and they also had demanded the police to ensure that Sasikala won't be using the ADMK flag after she arrives in Tamil Nadu and they had further said that only ADMK members have to use the ADMK flag. Sasikala used the car that was used by Jayalalithaa with the ADMK flag when she was traveling to Bengaluru resort from the hospital on January 31st, 2021.
The ADMK leaders including Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami had asserted that Sasikala won't be accepted in the party and her arrival won't cause any adverse impact to the party. ADMK has been on high alert and the party has been clearing the clouds of support for Sasikala and the current leaders have been firing the members of the party who are showing their support to Sasikala and welcoming her to the state.
VK Sasikala has served a four-year prison sentence in Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in Bengaluru after getting convicted in the Disproportionate Assets Case in which late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa was the first accused. Sasikala has got released on January 27th, 2020 and she will be arriving in Chennai on February 8.
Though Dhinakaran said that Sasikala will contest in the elections, the obvious state is that she not be able to contest in elections for another six years as per section 8 of the Representation of the People's Act, 1958 which disqualifies a person if convicted under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
