For the first time since her arrival in Chennai, VK Sasikala, who was the closest aide of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, has opened up about her political resurgence while addressing her supporters on Wednesday after paying floral tribute to Jayalalithaa on her 73rd birth anniversary.
VK Sasikala had arrived in Chennai on February 9, 2021, from Bengaluru after serving four-year imprisonment. She was released from prison on January 27, 2021, and after nearly ten days of hospitalization for the COVID-19 viral infection, she arrived in Chennai on February 9 amid a rousing welcome and reception from her supporters and party members. She arrived in Chennai by asserting that she will definitely plunge into active politics.
She has been living in her relative Krishnpriya's residence in T Nagar, Chennai and she has been confined in the residence for the past two weeks by not taking part in any political events and not meeting the leaders. For the first time since her arrival, Sasikala came to the political spotlight on Wednesday. Amid the presence of her supporters, Sasikala came before the cameras and offered floral tributes to Jayalalithaa. Sasikala's nephew TTV Dhinakaran, who is the leader of AMMK, was also present during the event.
After she paid tribute to Jayalalithaa, whom she fondly called 'sister', Sasikala had sent shockwaves to the current ADMK leaders by displaying that she is ready for the battle in taking control of the ADMK ahead of the assembly polls. Speaking to the supporters after paying the tribute, Sasikala said that the true cadres of Amma (Jayalalithaa) have to come together to work towards forming Jayalalithaa's government.
Sasikala, who was the expelled ADMK General Secretary, said, "Supporters of Jayalalithaa should come together and our aim should be what Jayalalithaa had told us- ADMK should rule the state for 100 years. We should keep that always in our hearts. All the cadres must ensure that the party wins and we should form Jayalalithaa's government. I believe we will do it because you are the true supporters of Jayalalithaa. You all will make it possible and I'll meet the public and cadres soon".
Following her address to the supporters, Sasikala had addressed the reporters during which she said, "I welcome everyone who has gathered here for Jayalalithaa's 73rd birth anniversary. When I contracted Coronavirus infection, the prayers of the people of Tamil Nadu and party cadre had helped me to recover from the infection. I thank you for that". According to reports, Sasikala's first address since her arrival had garnered major attention across the state and it has got a strong element implying that Sasikala is ready for active politics.
Through her address, Sasikala had called the supporters to defeat DMK and given a huge shock to the ADMK leaders that she is preparing to unite the members and take the party under her control. Her address has come at a high time when the current ADMK leaders had begun the drive of receiving nominations from the candidates for the assembly polls. As the current ADMK leaders and Sasikala had displayed Jayalalithaa on their fronts, the 73rd birth anniversary of Jayalalithaa had stirred the clash between two factions on who really owns the legacy of the late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.
Sasikala's call for the supporters of Jayalalithaa had come even before Edappadi Palaniswami's address to the members on Jayalalithaa's birth anniversary. According to reports, Sasikala's relatives TTV Dhinakaran and Vivek were present at T Nagar's residence when Sasikala paid tribute to Jayalalithaa and addressed the supporters. Adding to her address, Dhinakaran said that Sasikala has said what he has been saying. He stated that all Jayalalithaa's supporters and cadres should stay united to stop DMK from taking power.
