Former Indian cricket captain and Chennai Super Kings star Mahendra Singh Dhoni had a special encounter with the Oscar-winning team of The Elephant Whisperers, a documentary that tells the story of an indigenous couple who care for an orphaned baby elephant.
Dhoni, who is known for his love for animals, met the director Kartiki Gonsalves and the couple Bomman and Bellie at the Theppakadu Elephant Camp inside the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve in Tamil Nadu. Dhoni gifted them his iconic number 7 T-shirt and expressed his admiration for their work.
He also interacted with caretakers of the elephant, and the internet is showering awe for the few pictures of his visit to the most sensational couple. The Elephant Whisperers made history by becoming the first Indian documentary to win an Oscar for Best Documentary Short Film at the 95th Academy Awards.
The film explores the precious bond between the animal and his caretakers, who belong to the Kattunayakan community, a tribal group that has been protecting the forest for generations. The film also highlights the importance of sustainable development and living in harmony with nature.
The documentary is available on Netflix for streaming and has received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. It has also won several other awards, including the Best Short Documentary at the Mumbai Film Festival and the Audience Award at the Doc NYC Film Festival.
