Political strategist Prashant Kishor has on Tuesday dotted up the speculations that he will be joining the Congress party ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. While his meeting with the Gandhis and the senior leaders had armed the same, he has finally opened up with his decision not to join the party. In his public message, he also had expressed his opinion to the party's leadership, advocating for fixing the internal crisis through transformational reforms.
The Congress party has aimed to bring Kishor to the party and to the politics, ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, after he quitted from Nitish Kumar's party. As chief of IPAC, Kishor had worked with several leaders in the past few years and last year, he had announced taking a break from IPAC and he let his colleagues carry out the operation of the organization. For several months, Congress had negotiated with him and offered an invitation to join the party. However, he has now declined the offer.
Taking to Twitter, Kishor wrote, "I declined the generous offer of #congress to join the party as part of the EAG & take responsibility for the elections. In my humble opinion, more than me the party needs leadership and collective will to fix the deep-rooted structural problems through transformational reforms." Following Kishor's tweet, the Congress party's spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said that the party appreciates Kishor's efforts and suggestions he gave the party.
Surjewala wrote, "Following a presentation & discussions with Sh. Prashant Kishor, Congress President has constituted an Empowered Action Group 2024 & invited him to join the party as part of the group with defined responsibility. He declined. We appreciate his efforts & suggestion given to the party."
It has been reported that Congress had approached Kishor to be a part of its new Empowered Action Group to prepare for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Party leaders had admitted that there is no harm in Kishor joining the party. However, there should be no conflict wherever the party is allied with the regional outfits. Recently, he had advised the Congress leadership to contest the elections alone in the states where the party has a strong base and he also had discussed the Lok Sabha polls with the Congress party with the target of getting over 350 seats.
