Ponniyin Selvan 1 was released on September 30th, and given that it was a grand and monumental movie, its reception reached new heights. The release of Ponniyin Selvan 2 is expected to occur in the summer of 2023, according to the reports earlier. 

The first installment of Ponniyin Selvan, crowned as a maverick film of Kollywood, opened to favorable reviews and raked in more than Rs 500 crore at the box office. It is now the highest-grossing Tamil movie of 2022, the fourth-highest Tamil movie ever, and the fifteenth-highest Indian movie ever. 

After the ocean battle with Chola's vicious enemies, the big epic period was brought to a close by the great hype and intrigue surrounding the plot about Aishwarya Rai's dual role and the mystery of Arul Mozhi Varman (Jayam Ravi). The sequel will undoubtedly be a smash hit given the level of anticipation covering the first film. It has now been revealed that this movie will either have its world premiere on April 14 or April 28. 

As per the sources, the final release date of the sequel will be announced by the makers within a month. The five-chapter novel "Ponniyin Selvan," written by Kalki Krishnamoorthy in 1955, serves as the basis for the plot of the movie. Ponniyin Selvan's two parts were written by Elango Kumaravel and B.  Jeyamohan. This treasured venture was directed by Mani Ratnam. 

Mani Ratnam and Subaskaran Allirajah produced the movie through Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions respectively. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Jayaram, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prabhu, R. Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu, Prakash Raj, Rahman, and R. Parthiban, are among the ensemble cast members of the film series. A. R. Rahman composed the music, Ravi Varman shot the movie, A. Sreekar Prasad edited it, and Thota Tharani handled the production design.
