Amid growing outrage and demands to drop Muthiah Muralidharan's biopic '800', Vijay Sethupathi has unfolded a state of perplexion on Monday through his tweet that has made headlines across the state by sparking speculations that he is dropping the biopic following the unprecedented demand from the Tamil people, fraternities, and political leaders.
Vijay Sethupathi has tweeted his response to the statement issued by Muthiah Muralidharan in which the retired Sri Lankan cricketer had asked the actor to drop the biopic. The actor with the rising stardom has been facing massive flak across and beyond the borders for the past one week urging him to avoid acting in the biopic of the legendary spinner.
The major reason why the actor was demanded to drop the biopic was Muralidharan's support to the Sinhala leaders. Post his retirement from the cricket, Muralidharan had turned out to be an ardent supporter of Rajapaksas who executed genocide, grave human rights violations, and killed over a lakh of Tamil Eelam people in the Northern province of the island nation during the final stage of the civil war.
While Muralidharan has, on one hand, been celebrated as the legendary cricketer for his remarkable achievement, on the other hand, he has been flayed by the Tamil political leaders and the Eelam people for his allegiance for Rajapaksas. Ever since Vijay Sethupathi has announced that he would be acting in the cricketer's biopic, he has been running into controversies and fierce demands to avoid the movie.
Many of his fans and notable people from the Tamil cinema fraternities had criticized and urged the actor to avoid acting in the movie and not to disrespect the Tamil people and their sentiments. Amid such developments, Muthiah Muralidharan has on Monday issued a statement of asking Vijay Sethupathi to drop the movie. In his statement, the retired spinner said, "I'm releasing this statement after my biopic '800' was surfaced with controversies in Tamil Nadu".
He stated, "I have learned that Vijay Sethupathi has been pressurized by some of the parties to drop the biopic '800' based on the wrong impression about me. So I don't want an extraordinary artist in Tamil Nadu to get affected because of me. I am asking him to avoid acting in my biopic with the view that Vijay Sethupathi won't get any barriers in his journey in the future".
Muralidharan further added that "I won't get tired of the hindrances that emerge before me every time. I was able to achieve this feat after facing and defeating such barriers". Vijay Sethupathi has posted Muralidharan's statement in his tweet and responding to the cricketer's statement, the actor said "Thank you". It was the first tweet from Vijay Sethupathi ever since he was surfaced with the trouble.

Soon after he published his tweet, it had made headlines across the state with some reports suggested that he had decided to drop the movie. Though his tweet had no assertion that he had decided to quit, it has strongly stirred the speculations and debates on whether the actor has decided to drop the movie. However, the actor is yet to comment on his tweet that whether he thanked the cricketer for his concern for him or signaled that he had dropped the movie.
According to reports, the production house is yet to make its statement concerning the actor's tweet. Earlier before his tweet, a Tamil news agency had quoted that Vijay Sethupathi had affirmed that he would be acting in the movie without any second thought as the actor had said it was his honor to be a part of this landmark project. However, when he thanked the cricketer for his request to drop the movie, it had given space for heated speculations around him as the actor had unfolded a chaotic state, displaying a perplexion stand on whether he had dropped the movie or the demand.
