Veteran playback singer Vani Jairam passes away...Kollywood mourns the loss

Vani Jayaram, veteran playback singer who had just been announced for the honour with the Padma Bhusan award, passes away tragically in Chennai. She had been residing at Nungambakkam, Chennai, where she was reported as dead at home after falling unconciously. Her death was first attributed to a tragic fall. The case is being looked into by the Nungambakkam police.

From MS Viswanathan to AR Rahman, she has lent her voice to the works of several of Tamil cinema's most revered composers. In 1971, with the release of song Bole Re Papihara from the film 'Guddi' , she made his cinematic debut. Many songs have been written and performed by him since then. She reportedly passed away in her home on Haddows Road in the Chennai neighborhood of Nungambakkam. She smacked her head and cut her forehead. The whole Kollywood  is in disbelief, and many actors and actresses have already paid their tributes.

Khushbu Sundar took to Twitter and penned, "Terrible news coming in.. we have lost yet another gem.#VaniJayaram ji is no more amongst us. A voice that has enthralled us for many years has left us heartbroken. Her sweet and gentle nature was so evident in her voice. You will always be remembered amma. Om Shanti "

Radhika Sarathkumar also shared her condolences by writing, "This is so shocking #vanijayaram,just last night I was playing her song and telling my husband how beautifully she was rendering the song in #KVishwanath sirs film. I am so shocked."

The Padma Bhushan was declared as a government honour for her last week. Fans and the film industry are saddened by his untimely demise before she could accept the honour. In moreover, she has three times taken home the National Award for Best Female Singer.

Vani Jayaram was born to a family of Tamil origin on 30 November 1945 in the city of Vellore in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Her ancestors all have formal music educations. Her original name was Kalabani. Vani is a popular playback singer in South Indian movies. Back in 1971, he began his professional life. She's been a singer for almost four decades.
