Veteran Congress leader Motilal Vora has passed away on Monday at the age of 93 in Delhi due to his age-related ailments and COVID-19 related complications. Vora was the former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and he was admitted to Fortis Escorts Hospitals in Delhi a few days ago after he complained of a urinary infection.
His family said that Vora was also suffering from a lung infection and he was put in the support of a ventilator as he was battling for life. However, his health got deteriorated and despite the efforts to save him, Vora had breathed his last on Monday at the age of 93. According to reports, his mortal remains will be taken to Chhattisgarh where his body would be cremated either later on Monday or Tuesday.
Vora had in October tested positive for the COVID-19 viral infection and he was getting treated at AIIMS, Delhi and he later got discharged after getting recovered from the viral infection. However, he later developed post COVID-19 complications and complained of a urinary infection amid suffering from a lung infection. His battle for survival has come to an end on Monday after he breathed his last.
Motilal Vora was a long-time Congress leader and he was considered to be very close to the Gandhi family. The nonagenarian had served as the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh for a shorter time and also had served as the Union Minister and Governor. Born in 1927 in Rajasthan's Nagaur district, Motilal Vora began his career as a journalist. Initially, he joined the Samajwadi Party and then joined Congress and he was elected as a Congress MLA in Madhya Pradesh in 1972.
In 1985, he was elected as the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and left the post three years later and joined the national politics. In 1993, he was appointed as the Governor of Uttar Pradesh. Vora was also a Rajya Sabha member from Chhattisgarh till April this year and he was also the general secretary (administration) of the Congress Party until the recent reshuffle carried out by Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
After the news of his demise broke out, national leaders have been paying tribute and expressing condolences to Vora's family. Taking to Twitter, Prime Minister wrote, "Shri Motilal Vora Ji was among the senior-most Congress leaders, who had vast administrative and organizational experience in a political career that spanned decades. Saddened by his demise. Condolences to his family and well-wishers. Om Shanti".
In his tribute note, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi wrote, "Vora Ji was a true congressman and a wonderful human being. We will miss him very much. My love & condolences to his family and friends". Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot wrote, "He was a veteran leader of such extraordinary personality, whose life was dedicated to the Congress. He worked dedicatedly for the party until his last breath. His demise is a huge loss to the party. May his family & supporters find strength. May his soul rest in peace."
