For the ardent fans of Ajith, getting a Valimai update was as difficult as getting a visa to the United States and there were times when they went everywhere in search of Valimai update and the unprecedented fashion was like if there is one place where they hadn't asked for the update was the outer space. The fans disrupted the convoys of the political leaders with the placards asking Valimai update from them and Prime Minister Narendra Modi was one of the leaders who encountered such a weird incident.

Such development is new to Ajith's movie in recent times after Valimai was in a dormant mode when the industry of active. Valimai will be Ajith's first movie in two years after Nerkonda Paarvai in 2019 and it took one and a half years for Valimai, since it began shooting, to release its first update, which was indeed a long delay in the Tamil cinema industry and a major portion of this delay was contributed by the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown. After completing Nerkonda Paarvai, actor Ajith has signed to work again with H Vinoth and Boney Kapoor, who directed and bankrolled Nerkonda Paarvai respectively. The new movie was titled 'Valimai' and it had begun shooting on October 18, 2019, with the poojai. While 2020 had been a year of setback for every industry, Valimai wasn't an exception either as the shooting was halted. However, the movie team had kept the fans out of any update including the status of the shooting. On March 15, 2021, it was announced that Valimai first look will be unveiled on May 1st, 2021, on the occasion of Ajith's birthday. 

However, the fans braced up the shock after Valimai producer Boney Kapoor has announced that the first look won't be released on May 1st. In what had become another setback, he cited the Covid-19 pandemic as the reason why it was decided to defer the release of the first look. There had been no mention about when it will be released. Finally, the first look and motion poster were released on July 11, 2021, and gone viral across and beyond the borders. It was said that the movie has been slated to get released in 2021. 

Two days after, on July 13th, 2021, the second look was released after the motion poster has garnered 1 crore views. The fans were happy with back to back updates and amid that heat, the movie team has released the first single 'Naanga Vera Maari' on August 2nd, 2021. Touted to be the movie's first song, Naanga Vera Maari had created a huge milestone on YouTube with millions and millions of views. Yuvan Shankar Raja had composed the music and sung the song while the lyrics were penned by Vignesh Shivan. 

Earlier this month, the shooting was wrapped up after completing the schedule in Russia. As the shooting was over, it was strongly predicted that Valimai will be released on Diwali. The predictions had emerged the possibilities of a clash between Ajith's Valimai, Rajini's Annaathe, and Simbu's Maanaadu. While it was said that the movie would be released in 2021, the fans were in the affirmation that Valimai will be their Diwali treat.

However, on Wednesday- September 22, Boney Kapoor has officially announced that Valimai will not be released in 2021 and it will hit the screens during the Pongal holidays in 2022. The sources said that the decision was taken after Ajith had expressed his wish to pick Pongal 2022 for release instead of Diwali. While the fans began celebrating the update, Valimai Glimpses (teaser) was released on Thursday - September 23. Within a day of its release, it has garnered over 7 million views and earned a significant reception from Ajith fans, who are eagerly awaiting to celebrate Valimai Pongal.
