Vaccinating Chennai...New website for Chennaiites to receive COVID-19 vaccine! Here's how to register

With the view of enhancing the vaccination drive and inoculating the doses for the eligible people living in Chennai, the city's civic body has launched a new website in which the Chennaiites can book the slots and receive the vaccine doses. The residents can be able to book the slots the very next day at the time of booking and the website has come when the city has been witnessing a sharp decline in the COVID-19 cases. 

According to reports, the Greater Chennai Corporation has unveiled the website (gccvaccine.in) on Thursday. The website has two options - 'Book a vaccine slot' and 'manage your slots'. The residents can the availability of the vaccine doses and can book slots in any of the vaccination centres in the 15 zones in the city. The website will display the centre, the types of vaccines available, and the number of slots left for booking. 

It has been reported that the residents who register on the civic body's website aren't required to register on the Union government's CoWin website. If the residents book the slot on Chennai Corporation's website, the officials at the vaccination centre will be doing registration on CoWin. 

The civic body had mandated the residents to bring the government ID card that they used to book the slot and the phone with the contact number given to book the slot in order to provide the one-time password and verify their details at the vaccination centre. 

The website was unveiled by Municipal Administration Minister KN Nehru and Greater Chennai Corporation Commissioner Gagandeep Singh Bedi IAS. The website link is placed on the Greater Chennai Corporation's website and apart from the website, the residents of Chennai also have another option to book slots for vaccination. They can text the number 9499933644 and book appointments. Citizens can also call 044-46122300 to book their vaccine appointments. 

Speaking to the media, Simranjeet Singh Kahlon IAS of the Greater Chennai Corporation said, "Out of the vaccines available in each centre, we allot 1/3 of the stock for online bookings. This is to rule out any digital divide and allow ample doses for people who walk into the centre. For now, we only have allowed people to book for the next day as we are trying out this system and there are supply constraints too."
