Unrest over CAA: The delegation of Opposition parties met the President!

With the view of seeking judicial probe into the Delhi police crackdown against Jamia University students on Sunday and to urge the BJP central government to annul the amendments of the Citizenship Act, the delegation of Opposition parties had, on Tuesday, met with President Ram Nath Kovind and collectively expressed the parties concern over the unrest across the country since the passage of the amendment bill.

The delegation, which is headed by Congress Party president Sonia Gandhi, has been comprised of the leaders and the MPs of Congress and its allied parties. On Monday, the leaders have unanimously stated that they will stage their protest with the president to condemn the government on the alleged police suppression against the students of Jamia University, Delhi and to urge him to direct Narendra Modi to revoke the amendment over the bill, which the opposition called as violating the fundamental rights of the Indian constitution.

After meeting the President, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi accused the BJP government of shutting down the voices of the people and passing the legislation that is against the people and added that the opposition leaders are anguished at the manner in which police dealt with a peaceful demonstration. Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal has urged the people to remain calm and appealed for peace.

While the Opposition delegation prepared to meet the President, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had called on the protesters and young people to debate the policies and Modi further challenged the Congress party to declare that the party is willing to make every Pakistani as an Indian citizen. On one hand, the leaders had marched towards the Rashtrapati Bhavan, on the other hand, the protests and clashes between Delhi police and the students getting intensified despite the police had detained about ten people with the connection to the Sunday clashes.

The Supreme court had refused to install a committee for an independent probe into the police crackdown against the students of Jamia Millia Islamia University in Delhi and Aligarh Muslim University in Uttar Pradesh. The Apex court had observed that these pleas seeking the directive for a probe must be produced before the relevant high courts. The students of Jamia University have been protesting for the third consecutive day that had poured more unrest and agitation in the nation's capital.
