The Tamil Nadu police had gunned down two accused in the morning hours of Friday in the Chengalpattu district. The accused were being searched for the double murder that took place on Thursday and when the cops had neared the culprits in a forest area, the latter had tried to attack the former by hurling country-bombs and in an act of self-defence, the police had encountered them and apprehended two others in connection to the case. 

The dreadful incident has drawn huge attention from across the state and the bodies of the deceased accused were sent to the Chengalpattu Government Hospital. The collision has also injured two policemen and the motive behind the double murder is been investigated. According to reports, the accused Dinesh and Moideen were being searched in connection for killing two young people in Chengalpattu.

On Thursday evening, Dinesh, Moideen, and another suspect had murdered 27-year-old Karthik and 22-year-old Mahesh. The victims were relatives and they were brutally hacked to death by Dinesh and his gang. Karthik was at a tea stall near the Chengalpet old bus stand and at around 7.30 pm on Thursday, the three-member gang had hurled a country bomb at him and killed him. After murdering Karthik, the gang then entered Mahesh's house and killed him. 

Following the appalling incident of back-to-back murders, the Chengalpattu Taluk police had registered a case and launched the probe into the heinous crime. The police team headed by Superintendent of Police Aravindhan and Inspector Ravi had begun the investigation and they had secured the CCTV footage from the spot and intensified the manhunt to nab Dinesh and Moideen. The police had then received a tip-off that the accused were hiding in a forest area at Thirupulivanam in the district.

Based on the tip-off, the police team reached the spot at around 7.30 am on Friday- twelve hours after the gang murdered Karthick, and went into the forest area. After learning that the cops are here, Dinesh and Moideen had hurled country bombs at the police. They tried to attack the police and flee the spot and as an act of self-defence, the police had shot and killed them in an encounter. 

After confirming their identity, the police had sent their bodies to the Chengalpet Government Hospital and the cops had detained two other people - Maran and Jessica, in connection with the double murder case. As the police are probing to ascertain the motive behind killing Karthik and Mahesh, it has come to the revelation that the accused duo was history-sheeters. While Dinesh had already a murder case against him, Moideen was involved in three murder cases.
