Two more sitting legislators of Tamil Nadu have been confirmed to have affected by the Coronavirus pandemic on Thursday through which the state had witnessed eight legislators of the current assembly tested positive for the viral infection so far, as the pandemic has got grounds of spread in the state government's machinery amid the containment measures.
According to the reports, the two MLAs belong to the ruling ADMK party - Kumaraguru of Ulundurpet legislative constituency and Sadhan Prabhakar of Paramakudi constituency. Kumaraguru has been getting treated under isolation in a private hospital in Chennai while Prabhakar has been admitted to the isolation ward of the government hospital in Ramanathapuram district.
The ruling ADMK party has recorded four MLAs, including the current duo, tested positive for the virus so far. Last month, two ADMK MLAs, including Senior Minister Anbalagan, were tested positive for the virus and getting treated at MIOT Hospitals in Chennai. The other MLA was Palani, who has been representing Sriperumbudur constituency in the assembly.
The reports stated that Prabhakar's son has also been spelled positive for the virus and getting treated at the Ramanathapuram government hospital. While ADMK has reported four MLAs, the rest four belong to the DMK party. Last month, DMK legislators J Anbalagan, Vasantham Karthikeyan, KT Arasu, and Masthan were tested positive of which J Anbalagan had died due to the infection on June 10.
The rest three are getting treated. The four MLAs of ADMK include Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister KP Anbalagan, Palani, Kumaraguru, and Sathan Prabhakar. KP Anbalagan is the first minister in Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami's cabinet to test positive for the virus and he was confirmed to have contracted to the virus on June 30 and currently getting treated in Chennai.
In June, dozens of staff attached to the Tamil Nadu's Chief Secretariat had tested positive amid the containment strategies and one of the private secretaries of the Chief Minister had succumbed to the virus last month, becoming the first person close to the Chief Minister's chambers die due to the viral infection.
