In the midst of celebrating the history and the thumping opening for the movie, the makers of Ponniyin Selvan were shocked that it has become the latest victim to go into the hands of piracy as the entire movie was leaked online. Under the wave of euphoria, the troubling thieves played their part of recording the movie and releasing it online. 

According to reports, Ponniyin Selvan was available on illegal websites within a few hours of the movie's release. The leakage has stunned the fans and the pirates had also said to have deceived the people under the guise of offering the movie online. It has been reported that the movie was available on Telegram and when the fans clicked on the link to check, they were asked to pay a certain amount. 

They were told that after paying the amount, they can access the link and download the movie. However, later, after paying the money, some of them realized that they were conned by the pirated sites and that the link was not supportive. On the other hand, there were some sites that offered the movie free for the viewers where they can download it. 

Some illegal sites claimed they have uploaded a high-definition print of the movie as the development irked the makers right on the first day of the movie's release. Ponniyin Selvan comes up with two parts and the first part of the movie was released on Friday- September 30 and it has garnered positive reviews as what remained a dream project for the past seven decades has finally been achieved and got released in the theatres worldwide.  

Ponniyin Selvan has now arrived in the theatres from the minds of acclaimed filmmaker Mani Ratnam, who has successfully brought the cohort of top stars on the single screen. Thanks to his efforts and to the cast and crew for making the impossible possible. The spectacular making of a historical novel added with an ensemble cast and crew sparked a wave of euphoria, that was apparently evident from the celebrations. 

The production of Ponniyin Selvan started in December 2019 and ended in September 2021. The budget of this magnum opus is a whopping Rs 500 crores. Ponniyin Selvan is bankrolled by Subaskaran's Lyca Productions and Mani Ratnam's Madras Talkies and the music is composed by A R Rahman. It has been expected that the second part will hit the screens during the summer of 2023.
