Trouble grows for former ADMK Minister Jayakumar...Faces jail term in the third case!

Former ADMK Minister Jayakumar has been counting his tours between the court and the prison complex for the past few days. His battle of winning bail has on Monday- February 28, met with fresh trouble as he has been awarded imprisonment in the third case. Though he got bail in the second case, he has been incarcerated in Chennai for two more cases.

Tamil Nadu police have filed the first case against Jayakumar on the allegations of parading a DMK member during the polling of the urban local body elections. The former ADMK Minister was arrested for causing violence at the 49th ward in Royapuram in Chennai during the polls. Jayakumar and his associates had alleged bogus voting by a DMK member. A case has been filed against Jayakumar and other ADMK cadres under ten sections of the Indian Penal Code. Our sources say that the charges against him include criminal intimidation, assault, verbal abuse, and rioting.

He was arrested by Chennai police from his residence on February 21 and got judicial custody till March 7. Two days after the arrest, a fresh case was filed against Jayakumar. He had faced the second arrest in the morning hours of Wednesday - February 23 in connection to the case that was filed against him for conducting a roadblock in Royapuram by alleging voter fraud in the local body polls. He was remanded under judicial custody till March 9.

Amid the protests from the ADMK cadres against his arrest, Jayakumar had moved his bail petitions and while the court has on February 24 awarded bail to the former minister in the second case, he is yet to get bail from the first one. However, a fresh case has been lodged against him, which has become the third case that he is facing in a week.

The case was related to the allegations of abducting a factory and while he came to the court on Monday for the bail hearing for the first case, Jayakumar didn't win the bail and the court has remanded him in judicial custody for the third case till March 11. As the sequel of the fresh case, Jayakumar would be lodged in the prison till March 11 even if gets bail from the first case.

On the other hand, hundreds of ADMK functionaries have been staging protests against the ruling DMK government for arresting Jayakumar. On Monday - February 28, ADMK had staged a protest in Coimbatore against the arrest of the former minister. They had also protested against alleged malpractices in the local body elections.
