In a much-anticipated development, the Hindi remake of Atlee's acclaimed film Theri is set to grace the screens. Directed by A Kaleeswaran, titled initially as VD18, the film features Keerthy Suresh and Wamiqa Gabbi in pivotal roles, with the notable presence of Jackie Shroff and Rajpal Yadav in supporting characters. S Thaman is credited for musical score of the film, scheduled to hit theaters on May15.
Renowned filmmaker Atlee, who previously set box office records ablaze with Shah Rukh Khan in "Jawan," is making a compelling comeback, this time in the role of a producer for "Baby John," the Hindi adaptation of his Tamil hit, "Theri." Alongside co-producers Priya Atlee, Murad Khetani, and Jyoti Deshpande, Atlee has unveiled the first look of Varun Dhawan, who steps into the lead role in this action-packed entertainer.
Atlee took to X, wrote, "Unveiling the Biggest Action Entertainer of the year 2024 #BabyJohn starring #VarunDhawan, #KeerthySuresh & #WamiqaGabbi releasing on 31st May in cinemas!". Karan Johar, the popular Bollywood director, who helmed his debut film ‘Student of the Year,’ showed his support, exclaiming, "VD in the house! #babyjohn killing it! Congratulations to @atlee47 and the entire team! #Kalees."
The first look teaser video shows Varun Dhawan seated on a throne, radiating an intense and formidable aura, hinting at an imminent battle which is intriguing as it hinting a very varied plot from the Tamil original. Atlee's original "Theri" featured Vijay, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, and Amy Jackson in lead roles, receiving both critical acclaim and box office success. The film grossed an impressive Rs 150 crore, as the second highest-grossing Tamil film of 2016.
