After impressing the audience with his directorial debut and performance in Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, actor R Madhavan is all set to portray another real-life character on screen. He will be playing the role of GD Naidu, an engineer, and innovator who is also known as the ‘Edison of India’. GD Naidu is credited with the manufacture of the first electric motor in India and many other inventions in various fields.
The biopic, which is being produced by Media One Global Entertainment Limited, was announced on Thursday with a first-look poster. GD Naidu's contributions to the development of the electric motor are likely depicted by the image of a man standing in front of a parked car in a garage.
The production house shared the news of the biopic on his Twitter handle, writing, "Mediaone Global Entertainment Limited signed with GD Naidu charities to make a Biopic on the life and achievements of Miracle man #GDNaidu with @ActorMadhavan as the lead."
GD Naidu, who had only primary education, excelled in electrical, mechanical, agricultural, and automobile engineering. He was also referred to as the ‘Miracle Man’ for his innovations. He was also the subject of a documentary film titled GD Naidu – The Edison of India, which won the Best Science & Technology Film Award at the 66th National Film Awards.
The biopic aims to inspire the youth towards science and innovation and showcase GD Naidu’s life and achievements. The movie will be shot in 1920-30s era. “R Madhavan has often associated himself with content-driven films and characters that require him to push the envelope. He was taken aback by the script of the C Sankaran Nair Biopic and decided to come on board the film. He plays the role of a lawyer, whose character traits are based on a person from that era,” a source quoted in Pinkvilla.
