Trending Buzz: Suriya to play this role after 15 years in Sudha Kongara's Purananooru

Suriya's 43rd film titled Purananooru, starring Suriya, Dulquer Salmaan, Nazriya and Vijay Varma, is all set to kick off its first schedule from January 2023 at Madurai American College. The movie, directed by Sudha Kongara and composed by GV Prakash, is produced by 2D Entertainment.

The movie is said to be a political thriller with a twist. According to a film insiders' report, Suriya will be playing a role of a college student and a politician. The college student part will have an angle of students entering into politics and fighting for their rights. He lastly played a pivotal college student role is on Vaaranam Aayiram back in 2008.

Suriya will be undergoing intense weight loss for that portion to look convincing as a young student. The movie also boasts of a stellar cast, with Dulquer Salmaan playing Suriya’s rival, Nazriya playing Suriya’s love interest and Vijay Varma playing a key role. The movie is expected to be a high-octane entertainer with a lot of action, drama and romance.

Produced by Suriya's esteemed 2D Entertainment in collaboration with Meenakshi Cinemas, the film boasts a musical masterpiece by the renowned GV Prakash, marking his remarkable 100th venture as a music composer. the movie is set to be a period gangster drama, drawing inspiration from real-life events. A unique aspect that has piqued curiosity is the revelation of the title's last part, 'Purananooru', derived from a classical Tamil poetic work. 

The film to be helmed by the talented Sudha Kongara, whose directorial finesse has been previously showcased in critically acclaimed projects as her last venture, Soorarai Potru won National award, which also starred Suriya and composed by GV Prakash.  The makers have teased viewers with the tagline, "Rustic. Powerful. Strong," giving a tantalizing glimpse into the movie's thematic essence.
