Suriya is all set to join hands with the acclaimed filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra for a magnum opus based on the epic Mahabharata. Suriya will essay the role of Karna, the tragic hero and the son of the sun god, who fought on the side of the Kauravas against his own brothers, the Pandavas.
The film, which will be made in two parts, will explore the complex and fascinating character of Karna, who is considered one of the most powerful and generous warriors in the Mahabharata. The film will also showcase the love story between Karna and his wife, who was a princess.
According to sources, the makers have roped in the late legendary actress Sri Devi’s daughter, who made her debut in Bollywood with the film Dhadak, to play the female lead along with Suriya. The actress, who has been praised for her acting skills and screen presence, is said to be excited to work with Suriya and Mehra in this ambitious project.
The film, which will be shot in multiple languages, will have a lavish budget and a stellar cast of actors from different industries. The film will also feature high-octane action sequences and stunning visual effects to recreate the grandeur and glory of the Mahabharata era.
On the other hand, Suriya is to also be seen in another epic fantasy venture from Kollywood director Siruthai Siva, Kanguva which is to hit theatres around this summer. The film's first-look posters which were released by makers have already made fans go agog, and they anticipating a teaser and trailer with bated breath. The film is based on the story is about a warrior who dies from a disease in 1678, and a girl in the present who researches the disease.
