Top TN Congress MP tests positive for COVID-19, goes under home isolation!

Congress MP Karti Chidambaram, who is the son of the party leader and former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram, has become the latest politician to get contracted to the COVID-19 viral infection, as he has been tested positive for the global pandemic. 

Taking to Twitter on Monday, Karti Chidambaram said, 'I have just tested positive for #Covid. My symptoms are mild and as per medical advice I am under home quarantine. I would urge all those who have recently been in contact with me to follow medical protocol.' 

 

Karti Chidambaram is a Lok Sabha MP representing Sivaganga constituency in Tamil Nadu, where the cases have been surging amid the containment measures and restrictions. Tamil Nadu is the second Indian state with the most number of COVID-19 cases after Maharashtra. So far, dozens of legislators and four cabinet ministers of the South Indian state tested positive with one of the affected MLAs had died of the viral infection. 

Karti Chidambaram has become one of the prominent figures to spelled positive. On Sunday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit, and Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa have tested positive for the virus. 

While Amit Shah and Yediyurappa have been admitted to the hospitals in Delhi and Bengaluru respectively, Governor Purohit has been advised to stay under the home-isolation. 

In what has become the alarming development of the grounds of spread around the top leaders, the COVID-19 cases have been surging in India as in the last 24 hours till Monday morning 8 am, the country has reported yet another surge of cases with 52,972 fresh cases, 40,574 discharges, and 771 deaths. According to the Union Health Ministry, India has reported 18,03,696 cases so far as of Monday morning 8 am of which 11,86,203 have been discharged while 38,135 others had succumbed to the virus.
