The district of Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu had been a COVID-19 free district in the state till Friday since the outbreak began. It has now lost the tag of Coronavirus free district after it has reported the first positive case for the virus in its territory on Saturday.
According to the reports, a 67-year-old man had tested positive for the virus. He had a travel history to Puttaparthi, Andhra Pradesh and he returned to Tamil Nadu on April 25. Along with him, three others had gone to the Satya Sai Baba temple in Puttaparthi, Andhra Pradesh. After worshipping, they decided to return to Tamil Nadu when the nation was under the extended spell of the lockdown.
They arrived at the Krishnagiri border on April 25 following which the police officials stationed there investigated them and put them in the quarantine facility. Upon getting quarantined, their samples were collected for COVID-19 testing of which the sample of the elderly man returned positive for the virus becoming the first case in the district since the outbreak.
The reports stated the other three persons had tested negative and they have been kept under home quarantine. Krishnagiri continued to the only district in the state that had reported no positive cases leading to get marked under Green zone, with enjoying some relaxations on the lockdown. After having been reported the first case, Krishnagiri would be imposed with tight restrictions and guidelines prescribed for the districts under the orange zone.
The district hasn't reported any positive case for the past 28 days. The state government is yet to announce the official notification concerning the developments in Krishnagiri and in the state including a decision of extending the lockdown as the current spell would end on Sunday. The district, which shares its borders with Karnataka, could partially lift the ban on the public transportation system if it remains under the green zone.
Tamil Nadu has recorded the highest single-day rise of the positive cases on Friday after reporting 203 cases taking the total to 2,526. Of these 203, 176 cases belong to Chennai, which has the most number of cases in the state so far - 1,082 cases. The state has reported nearly 600 cases in the past four days which is more than the total number of cases Kerala has reported so far since the outbreak.
