The Tamil Nadu police department has decided to release the vehicles that were seized from the people who violated the lockdown from its custody, reports say.
The state Director General of Police (DGP) has issued a circular in which it has been stated that the seized vehicles will be released from Friday onwards. The department has notified that the owners of the vehicles would get a message on their mobile phones about the date and time of when they can get their vehicles.
The police have directed the owners to disclose the original registration certificate or driving license and the copy of the First Information Report (FIR). According to the reports, the state law enforcement agency has decided to release the vehicles as people would require the vehicles during emergency purposes.
The department has seized about 1.8 lakh vehicles in the state since the lockdown and arrested nearly two lakh people who were granted bail later and so far the police have collected Rs 98,07,394 as a fine from the people for violating the curfew and prohibitory orders that have been in place across the state since March 24th with the view of mitigating the spread of Coronavirus in its territory.
The police have decided to release the vehicles through the phased manner to avoid over-crowding and to maintain social distancing and the people can get their vehicles from 7 am to 12.30 pm from Friday. The move has amid the lockdown extension imposed by the state government earlier this week as it has been gripping up the restrictions and measures to curb the spread of the pandemic.
