TN under lockdown: Chennai police issues 207 vehicle passes to exit the city!

As the Tamil Nadu government has shut down the district borders, suspended the channels of the transportations, and restricted the unnecessary movements of the people to contain the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID19), the Chennai police has issued 207 vehicle passes on Monday to travel outside the city for emergency purposes.

According to the reports, the police department of the city has installed a control room at the police commissioner office on Sunday with the view of providing vehicle passes to the people who are in an emergency to travel outside the city and over 9200 people have applied for seeking the passes and on Monday, the police had granted 207 passes, that would be awarded based on the valid reasons.

The control room which has been headed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (crime against women and children) would be providing the vehicle passes for the people who are ought to exit the city for weddings, deaths, or medical emergencies and the applicants those who wish to avail the passes must disclose the valid reason including proof and request letter to the police for getting out of the city failing which the request must be denied.

The reports have stated that hundreds of applicants have gathered outside the commissioner office to ascertain the status of their applications for a vehicle pass. However, the police said that most of the applicants haven't disclosed valid reasons to travel outside the city that had resulted to reject such applications. On Sunday, the city police department has issued the contact details of the control room through which the people can reach out to avail the vehicle passes.

The people who are in an emergency to travel between the districts and the people who have to arrive in Chennai for similar emergencies can reach out to the control room that has been installed at the office of the Director-General of Police, Tamil Nadu and these measures have been taken by the state law enforcement agency to ensure that the people refrain from unnecessary travels and they are authorized to carry out the travels for the emergency purposes. The state government has been gripping up the fight against the Coronavirus by shutting the borders, restricting the travels, and imposing the statewide curfew under section 144 to curb the spread of the global pandemic.
