Tamil Nadu police have on Tuesday filed a case against VK Sasikala based on a complaint lodged by the former ADMK Minister. The development has brought Sasikala under the drone of law enforcement amid unfolding her 'audio politics' to make a political resurgence in the state and to take over the leadership of ADMK.
The police complaint has become the first against Sasikala since she got released from the Bengaluru prison after serving four-year incarceration. After the release, she asserted that she would stay off from active politics. However, she came to the political limelight recently through her phone call outreach to the members and functionaries of the ADMK to test their support for her and to establish a base for the political comeback.
She had spoken to dozens of ADMK cadres and assured them that she will definitely come back to politics and will take over the party to set things straight. Amid her outreach that troubled the ADMK leadership, Sasikala has now been booked by the police under severe sections based on the complaint from former ADMK Minister CVe Shanmugam, who had served as the Minister for Law and Prisons in the previous ADMK regime.
According to reports, Shanmugam had filed a complaint with the Roshanai police department in Villupuram on June 9 by alleging that Sasikala's supporters have been making frequent abusive calls and death threats to him after he made a statement against Sasikala to the media on June 7. In his complaint, Shanmugam further said that he had received over 500 calls on his mobile phone and through social media.
He demanded the police to file a complaint against Sasikala for issuing death threats to him. Nearly three weeks after filing the complaint, the Roshanai police have on Tuesday booked a case against Sasikala and 500 unidentified persons in connection to issuing abusive calls and death threats to the former minister. An FIR has been registered against them under sections 506(1) - criminal intimidation, 507 - criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication, 109- punishment for abetment, and section 67 of the IT Act.
While the TN Police had filed a case against Sasikala to counter what has been alleged by the former minister, the ADMK leadership has been countering her phone call outreach by firing the party cadres for speaking with and supporting her. The leadership of Edappadi Palaniswami and O Panneerselvam had expelled more than 20 functionaries from the party after such calls had put them into tensions and stirred huge intra-party furores.
However, no expulsion had barricaded Sasikala's outreach as she continues to speak with the ADMK cadres and release the audio clip to display how she has been welcomed to politics by the cadres. On the other hand, speaking about Shanmugam's complaint, AMMK leader Vaidhyanathan had earlier said that the former minister had filed a complaint to keep the police security.
According to our sources, Vaidhyanathan said, "Shanmugam was a minister in the previous government and as a minister, he was under heavy police security. However, he had lost in the recently-held assembly polls and ADMK had also faced a debacle. As he was defeated in the election, the DMK government has withdrawn police security detail from Shanmugam. After knowing this, Shanmugam had filed a complaint with the police that his life is under threat, with the view of keeping the police security."
