The Opposition parties of Tamil Nadu have, on Friday, unanimously decided to hold a signature campaign against the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC), and National Population Register (NPR) across the state next month.
The decision was taken during the meeting of opposition parties convened by the DMK and headed by the party's president and state opposition leader M.K.Stalin and proposal of hosting the anti-CAA campaign has come nearly a month after the DMK led parties held a massive procession in Chennai against the CAA. The reports say that the parties would be rolling out the campaign from February 2nd to February 8th, 2020.
While addressing the reporters after concluding the meeting, Stalin said that the signatures received from the people during the campaign would be presented to Indian President Ram Nath Kovind as part of stressing the Central government to revoke the enacted amendment that was largely criticized as biased and against of the Indian constitution.
By stating that the party members of DMK and the allied parties would be taking part in the campaign to ensure that it has been registered with as many signatures as possible during its course, Stalin stated that the parties would seek the appointment from the President to present the signatures to symbolize the voices of people against the CAA.
He further asserted that the opposition parties would not be reversing back against the CAA and through his address, he urged the state government of Tamil Nadu to take actions against the miscreants for vandalizing Periyar's statue. The reports have stated that the meeting was hosted by the DMK headquarters and state opposition party leaders including state Congress chief Alagiri, MDMK Chief Vaiko, VCK Chief Thirmavalavan, CPI state secretary Mutharasan and his CPM counterpart Balakrishnan were some of the top faces participated in the meeting.
