TN opposition parties boycotted the Governor's address in the assembly!

The opposition parties of the state of Tamil Nadu led by DMK had unanimously staged out from the Assembly during the Governor's address as the Head of the state had convened the first assembly session of the year. The session which commenced on Monday began with the address of Governor Banwarilal Purohit and the moments after the governor took the podium, DMK President and State opposition leader M K Stalin had hindered the proceedings with the view of urging the state government to adopt the anti CAA resolution in the assembly.

In line with Stalin, the members of the opposition parties were seen raising the slogans against the CAA that disrupted the Governor's speech after which Purohit had called the Leader of the Opposition to debate later and said that this assembly should be used for the debate. Despite the request, the members of the opposition parties had boycotted the first day of the assembly session.

Upon boycotting the assembly, M K Stalin addressed the reporters in the premises of the Tamil Nadu Secretariat and during his address, Stalin listed out the reasons why the members had walked out from the session and stated that the employment opportunities and industrial development have been diminishing in the state and the debt has gone to Rs 4 lakh crore and cited that the Governor had failed to disclose his decision on acquitting the seven convicts of Rajiv Gandhi assassination case as the state council of ministers had already recommended the governor to grant amnesty to the life term inmates.

He further claimed that the ruling ADMK government has supported and voted in favor of passing the Citizenship Amendment Bill by betraying the minorities and Sri Lankan Tamils and stated that the police department and the election commission had worked in favor of the ruling party in the rural local body elections and accused the ADMK government of tabling fresh appeal against the NEET exam in the apex court while the registration for UG-NEET exam is nearing its deadline. By recalling the death of students including Anitha who hanged herself after failing to clear the NEET exam, Stalin said that the government is playing a drama as it has freshly appealed in the supreme court now by remaining quiet for the past two years.

Along with Stalin, Congress MLAs, the MLA of Indian Union Muslim League, assembly's sole independent MLA TTV Dhinakaran, and Thamimun Ansari had walked out from the assembly. Congress party MLAs have said that they had boycotted the house to stand against the ADMK government's support to the Citizenship Amendment Act and Thamimun Ansari, who won in ADMK's party symbol, came to the assembly in a T-shirt which carried the wordings of No CAA, NRC, and NPR. By condemning the ADMK government, the opposition members have also urged the Center to take action against the masked men who instigated the violence in JNU on Sunday evening as the mob had allegedly attacked and injured more than 20 people including students and the teachers of the prestigious university.
