A TN man sets himself on fire after police seized his vehicle for violating lockdown!

After the police officers in Ambur, Tirupattur district in Tamil Nadu seized his two-wheeler for violating the lockdown restrictions, a 27-year-old man has set himself on fire on Sunday in front of the public.

According to the reports, the man was identified as Mugilan (27) and belongs to Anna Nagar in Ambur. He was taken to the Vellore Christian Medical College Hospital with 80% of burn injuries and has currently been getting treated at the hospital and his family members had blamed the police officers at the checkpoint who seized his two-wheeler.

According to the police officials close to the case, Mugilan was strolling near OAR theater in Ambur in his two-wheeler on Sunday, when the state observed a complete lockdown owing to the COVID-19 outbreak. The theater sits 100 meters away from his house and the police have installed about 25 check posts in the town to monitor the movements of people and vehicles.

When Mugilan was spotted in his two-wheeler, he was stopped by the police and when they questioned him to know the purpose of his travel, it was found that Mugilan was under the influence of alcohol. The police officials seized his two-wheeler for reportedly violating the lockdown rules and booked him under sections 188, 269 of the Indian Penal Code. He was also booked under the sections of the Disaster Management Act and Epidemic Disease Act.

However, after the police seized his vehicle, Mugilan demanded them to release his two-wheeler and it later surfaced an argument between them, and the officials have directed him to take his vehicle after disclosing valid vehicle documents on Monday. After the development, reports say Mugilan went to his home and brought a can of Kerosene back to the check post.

He stood a few meters away from the check post where his vehicle was seized and he called other people on the road and avowed that the police officials were responsible behind his extreme step and he poured Kerosene on him after which he set himself on fire. After the incident, he was rushed to the government hospital in Ambur, and then he was taken to the Vellore Government Hospital.

He sustained 80% of burn injuries and later he was admitted to the CMC Hospital in Vellore and he remains under critical condition. The hospital records have shown that he was under alcohol influence. The district police department has initiated a probe and investigating the family members of Mugilan and the police officials at the check post.

His family members demanded the District Superintendent of Police to arrest the police officials who were stationed in the check post. The reports stated that Mugilan is married and has three daughters.
