TN 'Kolam' protest: Police investigates the Pakistan link behind the protester!

While Tamil Nadu's brand new 'Kolam' protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act ( CAA) and National Register of Citizens(NRC) have been on the flagrant rise across the state as it has become a part of opposing the biased and controversial amendment, the city's police commissioner, on Wednesday, said that the police department has been investigating the alleged Pakistan links behind one of the women who was booked for rolling out the Kolam protests in Chennai.

The reports say that one of the social media accounts of the woman described that she has been a part of an organization based in Pakistan. While addressing the reporters on the developments, Chennai police commissioner Viswanathan has said that 'the Facebook profile of Gayatri Kandhadai has indicated that she is a researcher for Bytes For All, which is a part of the Association of All Pakistan Citizen Journalists based in Pakistan'. On December 29th, the police had arrested her along with seven others for drawing Kolams in Besant Nagar, Chennai with the anti CAA slogans and they were acquitted on the same day.

The commissioner stated that the police department will investigate her links with Pakistan and cited that the police didn't issue any permission to the women to stage a protest against the CAA and NRC and added that 'the police didn't interfere until an issue erupted'. On the other hand, organizations like Arappor Iyakkam, Welfare Party of India, and Campus Front of India had backed the woman.

On Sunday, hours after the police detained the women for allegedly drawing the 'Kolams', the leaders of the state opposition party DMK had drawn the anti CAA Kolams in front of their houses as the brand new style of the uproar has seen a rampant rise across the state with hundreds of suck Kolams were drawn before the residences which had sent a solidarity to the women who were booked by the police.

In its official website, Bytes For All (B4A) describes it as a human rights organization and a research think tank with a focus on Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and the organization claims that it promotes the use of technology for sustainable development, democracy, and social justice.
