As the tenth-grade students of Tamil Nadu braced up for the new pattern of results after the board exams were canceled owing to the COVID-19 outbreak, the Tamil Nadu government has announced the results of the students on Monday and as announced all the students have passed the exams and promoted to the next level.
The board exams for class 10 students would usually be held in the month of March every year and this year, it got deferred for twice times in the wake of COVID-19 lockdown and virus spread and in June, the government has canceled the board exams and said that the marks for the students would be awarded based on their quarterly, half-yearly exams, and their attendance records.
According to the reports, the exam results have been declared by the Directorate of Government Examinations (DGE) and more than nine lakh students have registered to appear for the exams this year and as the sequel of the cancellation, they will be awarded marks based on the quarterly and half-yearly exams. Initially, the government had scheduled to conduct the exams from March 27 to April 13.
The reports stated the directorate has announced that 9,39,829 (4,68,070 girls and 4,71,759 boys) students have been declared pass. The students will be provided with their provisional mark sheet from August 17 to 25 and the students can approach the school during the same period if they found any discrepancies in their marks.
The government's plan to conduct the board exams amid the lockdown had drawn massive criticism from various stakeholders and the matter got the intervention of the Madras High Court which also has slashed the government on conducting the exams in such a hurry in the midst of the virus spread. Initially it was speculated that the government would further defer the exams. However, in June, Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami announced that the board exams have been canceled and all the students would be promoted for the next level.
