The Kallakurichi police department has, on Tuesday, registered the case against Tamil Nadu BJP President Murugan and around 250 members of the party for defying the lockdown and restrictions by conducting the political event, that has been banned in the state owing to the COVID-19 outbreak.
According to the reports, L Murugan has visited Kallakurichi for the opening ceremony of the party's new district office and when he arrived at the district, the party members had thronged and gathered in the area and gave him a grand welcome and along with the packed crowds, Murugan attended the political event of inaugurating the party's office.
After knowing the development, the district police department had taken action against the leader and party members for violating the lockdown norms by organizing and conducting the political event. The district police had booked the case against BJP President Murugan and 250 members of the party under the grounds of the Epidemic Diseases Act for going against the restrictions.
BJP's L Murugan has been one of the politicians in Tamil Nadu to have been booked with the case for defying the lockdown and restrictions. Earlier, the Villupuram police department had filed a case against senior DMK leader and former minister Ponmudy for organizing and conducting the political event for welcoming dissented ADMK leader Lakshmanan and 2000 others to the DMK party.
The Villupuram police booked the case against Ponmudy and Lakshmanan and 300 others for organizing the event by defying the lockdown and the case has also been booked against Former IPS officer K Annamalai, who recently joined BJP, the party members gathered in Coimbatore to welcome him to the party.
