Tamil Nadu based Youtuber Maridhas has been booked by the Tirunelveli police for reportedly airing communal statements through his Youtube videos on terrorism and COVID-19. The Youtuber has been accused of delivering comments to promote feelings of enmity and hatred between different religious groups.
Maridhas has been known for defending and upholding the right-wing views and in the Youtube video that was uploaded on April 2 in his official channel 'Maridhas Answers', he said that the Coronavirus has been spread by the terrorists to kill innocents across the world and stated that a suicide bomber can kill about 100 people whereas the global pandemic can kill 2,000 people and he went on to state that the supporters of the terrorism protect themselves with their Muslim identity. His video was titled 'Terrorism+Corona - India's new problem- Tablighi Jamaat issue'.
In the next video that he uploaded on April 4, he claimed that the DMK party has been accusing him of speaking against Muslims and he stated that the members of the Tablighi Jamaat have been misbehaving with the hospital staff during the isolation period. The complaint against him was filed by Kader, a member of the Tamizhaga Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam.
With accord to the complaint that was disclosed online, the Melapalayam police in the district had booked Maridhas under sections 292A, 295A - Malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting religion or beliefs, 505(2) - statements conducting public mischief and under the Information Technology Act.
According to the reports, the summon would be issued to Maridhas after the statewide lockdown comes to an end. The state government has imposed a complete lockdown and curfew under section 144 till April 14th to curb the spread of the Coronavirus.
