Chinese President Xi Jinping had arrived in Chennai for the first time in his presidency this afternoon where he will table his meet with Indian Prime minister Narendra Modi later this evening in Tamil Nadu's coastal town of Mamallapuram.
Chinese Presidential aircraft Boeing 747 had touched down around 1.45 pm on the grounds of Chennai International airport after which he was given with warm and traditional red carpet welcome. He was overwhelmingly received by the Governor of Tamil Nadu and the state Chief and Deputy chief ministers following which he took the red carpet welcome surrounded by the cultural dancers who were dressed with showcasing the heritage and culture of Tamil Nadu.
Upon his arrival, he took his exclusive presidential limousine and escorted to ITC Grand Chola hotel in Guindy as he had kick started his historical visit with the motive of enhancing the bilateral relations with India and connecting the heritage.
Throughout his scheduled route from the airport to the hotel, about 6000 people including students had occupied both sides of the road and extended their celebrations by flagging Indian and Chinese flags. It has been reported that he will start his tour to Mamallapuram around 4 pm from Guindy where he will sail on the sea of people where it was estimated that more than 50,000 people will stage the grand welcome to the Chinese leader till Mamallapuram, that lies around 50 kilometers from Chennai.
After he disembarked his motorcade in Mamallapuram, he will be officially welcomed by Indian Prime minister Narendra Modi who had already reached Chennai this morning and left for Mamallapuram much prior to the Chinese leader, after which both the leaders will tour the historical and traditional town of Mamallapuram following which Modi will host official state dinner for the visiting Chinese leader and his delegation. The reports further stated that both the leaders will table their informal discussions on the full spectrum of the bilateral ties between the countries, especially in the areas of trade and cross border issue and they will wrap up their first day where Xi Jinping will take the road and arrive back to Chennai.
On Saturday, they will resume their talks in the coastal town following which the Indian delegation and the visiting delegation will circle for potential talks to enhance the existing relations to new heights. On conclusion, Prime minister Modi will host Xi Jinping for state lunch in Mamallapuram after which he will be escorted back to Chennai airport from where he will leave Chennai along with his delegation.
On the other hand, the police department had tightened the security grids during the entire course of the visit, where hours ahead of the arrival of Chinese President, the police personnel who were deployed in ITC Grand Chola had detained the group of Tibetan students while the other set of Tibetans were arrested near Chennai airport after they had reportedly raising slogans against the Chinese leader and following their arrest, they were removed from the spot through the police van. These arrests came after the police had already detained about dozens of Tibetans last week in the parts of Chennai who had planned to stage protest against Xi Jinping on his stand on Tibet.

Prime minister Narendra Modi had took his twitter to welcome the Chinese President through the trio of English, Tamil and Chinese languages.
