The police department of Villupuram district in Tamil Nadu has, on Thursday, registered a case against DMDK treasurer Premalatha Vijayakanth and BJP Tamil Nadu president L Murugan for violating the lockdown orders and prohibitions by gathering before the residence of teenage girl Jayashree, who was burnt to death by two ADMK functionaries last Sunday.
The political leaders from various parties of the state and the functionaries had gathered at the residence on Thursday to offer solatium to Jayashree's family during which they have been accused of violating the lockdown orders.
According to the police department, BJP's state president Murugan had visited Jayashree's home with more than twenty functionaries of the party and he offered Rs 1 lakh to the father of the deceased as his compensation.
In line with that, DMDK treasurer Premelatha Vijayakanth had also visited Jayashree's residence on Thursday along with thirty members of the party and she solaced the family and provided a solatium of Rs 1 lakh on behalf of the party and over nine functionaries of the Indian Union Muslim League and Manitha Neya Makkal Kazhagam had also visited Jayashree's residence.
The Tiruvennainallur police department in Villupuram had registered a case against more than 80 functionaries of four political parties of which 25 people had been named in the First Information Report (FIR) while the rest were named as unknown accused. According to the reports, the police had booked under the grounds of unlawful assembly.
The leaders have been booked under sections 143 - unlawful assembly, 269 - acting negligently to spread the infection, 188- disobedience to order of the IPC, Section 51 of the Disaster Management Act, and Section 3 of the Epidemic Disease Act.
It must be recalled that 14-year-old girl Jayashree was burnt to death by two local ADMK functionaries last Sunday at her residence in Sirumadurai village in Villupuram. She sustained 95% of burn injuries and she was declared dead on Monday. The police department had arrested the duo and found out that it was an act of vengeance. Both men were expelled from the party and remanded under judicial custody.
