These TN districts would see a decline in COVID-19 cases in May- Here's the update!

While Chennai has been witnessing soaring high cases of COVID-19 each day amid the restrictions and lockdown, some of the districts across the state have been expected to see a decline in the positive cases in May as the graph of these districts remain downwards for the first week of May.

The western districts of Tamil Nadu had reported one-fourth of the total affected cases in the state in April. However, the COVID-19 curve of these districts has been declining from the beginning of May till Friday and the eight districts of the west zone had reported only thirty cases in the past eight days.

According to the reports, the western districts now contribute less than 7% of the total affected cases in the state. The districts like Coimbatore, Tirupur, and Erode which once had a rampant spread of the virus, have been reporting no positive cases for the past few days. Adding to the west zone, the districts in the southern and central belt of the state have also been reporting a decrease in the positive cases.

Thoothukudi district had recorded 30 cases of which only three fresh cases have been reported in May till Friday while Sivaganga has recorded 12 cases so far and it has reported no fresh cases in May revealing the possibilities that these districts might see the decline in the COVID-19 cases. Apart from Ariyalur and Perambalur, the districts in the Central zone have been reflecting the grounds of declining spread.

Ariyalur and Perambalur are two districts in the Central zone that had caught up with the impact of the Koyambedu cluster. According to the reports, Ariyalur has recorded eight cases till April 30 and the Koyambedu cluster had presented the sharpest rise for the district. In a week, the district has added about 240 cases to its count taking the total number of affected cases to 246 as of Friday.

Perambalur has also reported more cases linked to the Koyambedu cluster. The cluster has directly impacted the districts in the northern zone. The districts like Chennai, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur have been witnessing surging cases that were linked to the cluster. The reports stated that Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri are the districts that reported more cases in the western zone in May.

The districts like Coimbatore, Erode, Tiruppur, Salem, Madurai, Trichy, Tuticorin, Sivaganga, Pudukottai, Tiruvarur, and Nagapattinam have been reporting fewer cases in May and it has been expected that these districts would close the month with a decline in the COVID-19 cases. On Friday, the state health department has revealed that 1589 people who have tested positive for the virus in the state had linked to the Koyambedu cluster which is nearly 20% of the total affected cases in the state.
