The Tamil Nadu government has announced that the five corporations in the state would go under complete shutdown from April 26th to April 29th as the government has gripped up the existing lockdown and prohibitory orders in these five corporations by seizing the lockdown time, which has been enjoyed by the state.
The announcement has been made by Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami in which he has stated that the corporations of Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai would stay under complete shutdown starting from 6 am on April 26th (Sunday) and the embargo would stay till 9 pm on April 29th (Wednesday) and the entire establishments, apart from the essentials, would be closed and the movements of vehicles and people would be highly restricted during the enhanced tenure of the lockdown.

The Chief Minister further stated that the corporations of Salem and Tirupur would go under the complete lockdown from 6 am on April 26th to 9 pm on April 28th which is for the three straight days and these five corporations would see very little movements while compared to the other districts. According to the reports, the fresh restrictions imposed on these five corporations would let the functioning of the extremely essential services while all establishments, including grocery shops, would be banned.
As per the statewide lockdown, the groceries, vegetable shops, and petrol bunks would be functioning from 6 am 1 pm in all the districts. However, these five corporations have been brought under tight surveillance with complete day and night shutdown. The reports stated that the vegetables and fruits can be sold on the pushcarts. The wholesale markets can function and the restaurants in these corporations are permitted to deliver food at the doorstep of the customers and can only accept the orders through phone calls.
Earlier, people in these corporations can go to the hotels and can get food like the other districts and through the recent ordinance, the people can only place orders and are not allowed to step out of their homes and the IT employees of these areas can work from home. According to the Chief Minister, the essential services like hospitals, pharmacies, laboratories, ambulances would be permitted as usual.

Amma Canteens and ATMs can function normally so are the government departments like health and family welfare, police, electricity, Aavin Milk, local administrative bodies, water distribution, revenue, and disaster management and 33% of employees in the Central government offices and banks can continue the essential operations. By putting out the developments through Twitter, the Chief Minister stated that the government would bring the containment zones in the five corporations under its control during the tenure of the complete shutdown.
Disinfectant would be sprayed in these areas two times a day. The announcement from the state government has come after the Chief Minister has chaired a review meeting with the health experts on Friday and it was decided that the restrictions in the cities must be tightened to curb the spread of the virus. Chennai has reported with the most number of cases in the state with over 400 cases and these corporations have been emerging as the hotspots for the virus.
