Then VK Sasikala, now Vijayakanth: What DMDK members said after quitting ADMK alliance?

With just weeks ahead of the assembly polls, Tamil Nadu has been witnessing the high-level political dramas screened by the unanticipated turns and tussles and the changing trend of scenes had captured the asymmetrical fashion of politics through the political divide in the alliance. Vijayakanth's DMDK is the latest party to display the fashion after it twisted the tale of the alliance by deciding to quit the ADMK-led alliance.

Though ADMK and DMDK had held multiple rounds of talks, there were no signs to reach a deal over seat-sharing. While the DMDK had initially opened its bid with 41 seats for the assembly polls, it had reduced to 25 seats later on, and with its demand of getting more seats than Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), the DMDK was not ready to accept less than 25 seats. However, the Tamil Nadu ruling party had made up its mind to restrict DMDK for 15 seats.

Both the parties had held negotiations to reach a consensus but it had stirred a tug-of-war between them and while ADMK had made deal with the other parties, it had faced major challenges in finalizing the talks with DMDK. As the result, Vijayakanth's party had on Tuesday said that it has decided to quit the ADMK alliance and it was decided with the unanimous approval of the party's district secretaries.

The statement, signed by Vijayakanth, concerning the decision was released by DMDK on Tuesday in which it has said, "DMDK had held talks with ADMK three times for the upcoming assembly elections. The ADMK had refused to allot the requested numbers of seats. The talks didn't attain an expected and desired conclusion and since all the DMDK districts secretaries had reached a decision, DMDK has decided to quit the ADMK alliance from March 9". The DMDK cadres had welcomed the decision of quitting the ADMK alliance.

The party members started celebrating the decision at the party's headquarters in Koyambedu, Chennai by distributing sweets. They said that ADMK leaders Edappadi Palaniswami and Panneerselvam had betrayed VK Sasikala then and now they have betrayed Vijayakanth. The members had claimed that Edappadi Palaniswami will lose the deposit in the assembly polls. Vijayakanth's decision had sparked speculations over whether DMDK will contest in the polls independently or will form an alliance.

While addressing the reporters after the meeting, DMDK leader Parthasarathy said that the party's next course of action will be decided on Wednesday. DMDK's Deputy General Secretary LK Sudhish said, "We have left the ADMK alliance after the ADMK had refused to provide the demanded number of assembly seats. Today is Diwali for DMDK and ADMK will definitely lose deposits in the assembly polls. ADMK leader KP Munusamy was acting as the sleeper cell for PMK and he is not working for ADMK".

Vijayakanth's son Vijaya Prabhakar said, "We will retaliate ADMK in the assembly polls. ADMK will see a decline and its leadership is flawed". He also had asserted that DMDK will not ally with Kamal Haasan and Dhinakaran. As we had earlier mentioned that reaching a deal with DMDK was a big challenge for ADMK, the ruling party leaders including senior ministers had met Vijayakanth last week and convinced him to settle for 15 seats. However, DMDK had urged the ADMK to provide more seats than what it has offered to PMK (Pattali Makkal Katchi). The ADMK had offered 23 seats for PMK and DMDK had demanded at least 25 seats.

Amid the talks, DMDK leader LK Sudhish took to social media and said, "Our Chief Minister Vijayakanth, our symbol Murasu, and our flag is DMDK party flag". His open statement had hinted that DMDK will quit the alliance if ADMK fails to offer the seats it had demanded. Days after his statement, DMDK has on Tuesday officially quitted from the ADMK alliance. As the DMDK members are celebrating the decision, ADMK and BJP have been appealing to Vijayakanth to reconsider his decision.
