While the Tamil Nadu government had poured a major relief for the theater owners after it has permitted to resume the theaters from November 10, the theater owners are still yet to enjoy the relief to the fullest, which would be made possible by the government's regulations, standard operating procedures, and the movies that are ready for the theatrical release.
The state government has on Saturday allowed the theaters to re-open from November 10 with 50% of capacity and the resumption has come a fortnight ahead of the Diwali festival and at a high time when some of the big movies are pushed to the direct OTT release during the festive season. The theaters were closed for the past seven months and the government has permitted to resume the multiplexes and theaters across the state apart from the containment zones.
When the news had relished the movie buffs who are awaiting to celebrate Diwali by watching the movie on big screens after a long time, the theater owners are yet to clear the clouds to have clear weather and picture. According to a news agency, the Theater Owners Association will be holding an official meeting with the theater owners on Tuesday through video-conferencing to have a discussion over the resumption.
Some of the important topics on the fray include the discussion about the films that will be released and how the theaters can go ahead with the resumption based on the standard operating procedures. The theater owners had asserted that they would be strictly adhering to protocols and guidelines issued by the government. They said that they will follow the 50% seating regulations, encouraging cashless transactions, regular sanitizing, and other regulations.
Though having a relief, the theater owners are yet to witness whether they would be getting the expected footfall and audiences and this year's Diwali would be having no movies from the big stars. While Thalapathy Vijay's 'Master' was waiting for the theatrical release by skipping the OTT platforms, the producer of Master is yet to announce the exact release date of the movie, which has been expected by Vijay fans.
According to a news agency, the theater owners haven't received any confirmation on the movie releases and the production houses will be making the announcement officially. Diwali 2020 will likely witness the stronghold of the OTT platforms as two big films - Suriya's 'Soorarai Pottru' and Nayanthara's 'Mookuthi Amman' will be directly released on the OTT platforms.
While Soorarai Pottru, directed by Sudha Kongara, will be released on November 12 on Amazon Prime, Mookuthi Amman, directed by RJ Balaji, will be exclusively released on Disney+Hotstar on November 14. While Suriya will be playing in the movie that was inspired by the true story of captain Gopinath, the founder of India's low-cost airliner 'Air Deccan', Nayanthara will be playing as Goddess in Mookuthi Amman.
Some reports say that movies like Jiiva and Arulnithi starring 'Kalathil Santhipom', director Santhosh's adult horror- comedy 'Irandam Kuthu', and Santhanam's 'Dikkiloona' are expected to release in theaters during Diwali. Last Diwali, when no one knows what COVID19 is, had seen the release of Vijay's 'Bigil' and Karthi's 'Kaithi', and both the movies were blockbuster hit.
