Target 2024: BJP President JP Nadda wins an extended term ahead of crucial elections!

BJP National President JP Nadda, whose presidential term was scheduled to end this month, has won an extended term to continue as the party's president in the wake of upcoming crucial elections including the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

It was already speculated that the Central ruling party won't risk in changing the leadership when the general election are just a year away and that Nadda will remain as the party's president till the general elections with the full backing of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. As the BJP has come up with the 'Mission 350' to win 350 seats in the Lok Sabha polls, it will be a litmus test for Nadda's leadership.

On Tuesday - January 17, during the second day of the party's executive meet, Union Home Minister and senior BJP leader Amit Shah announced that Nadda will continue to lead the party till June next year. Addressing the press conference, Amit Shah said, "The BJP national executive unanimously decided to extend party president JP Nadda's term till June 2024."

"We are confident that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Nadda, the party will win 2024 Lok Sabha polls with bigger mandate than 2019", Amit Shah added. JP Nadda, who was the Union Health Minister in Modi's first term, became BJP President in 2020 succeeding Amit Shah and Nadda's term had a validity of three years and was scheduled to end this month.

As India will be witnessing assembly elections in nine states this year and the Lok Sabha polls, it was reported that it was less likely that Nadda would have a successor at this high political juncture. As expected, Nadda's term has been extended till June 2024 and the BJP leaders have agreed that Nadda enjoys the confidence of Narendra Modi and his good performance has enabled the party to decide on an extension.

In his address, Amit Shah said that the BJP has triumphed many state elections under Nadda's leadership and expressed his confidence that it would achieve a bigger mandate in the 2024 polls. Amit Shah has also commended Nadda's leadership during the Covid pandemic and said that he connected the party with the service of people.

With the mission of winning the Lok Sabha polls, BJP sees the poll as the historical importance as it aims for a hat-trick victory at the Centre and if it wins, Narendra Modi will be the second Prime Minister after Jawaharlal Nehru to lead the party to three consecutive terms at the Centre. Under Nadda's leadership, BJP will compete in the assembly polls in the states of Tripura, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Rajasthan, and Telangana.
