The opposition party of the state of Tamil Nadu, DMK had staged district-wise protests on Tuesday to voice against the state and central government on implementing the Citizenship Amendment Bill. The district-wise protests had held with the participation of the senior party leaders of the party and the party cadres across the state.
The protests of DMK come days after the party's President and State opposition leader M K Stalin had instructed all the party members to participate in the protests against the BJP government and the ruling ADMK government in the state for abiding to clear the bill in the Parliament. By citing the bill as unconstitutional, Stalin stated that his party must defeat the ADMK government in the upcoming local body elections that would teach a lesson. He asked the party members to meet the people directly and explain about the dreadful impacts of the Citizenship bill.
The leaders and senior party men of the party had led the protests across the state. Kanimozhi, who is the sitting MP of Tuticorin, led the protests in Chennai collectorate while DMK President M K Stalin led the protests in Kanchipuram district. Kanimozhi has been one of the strongest critics of the bill where she slammed the bill as the discriminatory one against the minorities and on Tuesday, she said that the bill excluded 'Sri Lankan Tamils' and by accusing the support rendered by Tamil Nadu's ruling ADMK party to the BJP in Rajya Sabha to clear the bill, she branded the ruling party as a shame on this nation.
The party's president and state opposition leader M K Stalin had urged the Central government to revoke the Citizenship Amendment Bill and underlined that building one nation is possible only through integrity not through divisive policies. While speaking in Chennai, Dayanidhi Maran, MP of Central Chennai had condemned the act that is against the minorities. He blamed the ADMK government for bringing the people of Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka down by extending the support at the Rajya Sabha.
While on one hand staging the protests across the state, on the other hand, the party had tabled its petition in the Supreme court on Tuesday against the Citizenship Act that was consented by the President last week. DMK has been voicing against the bill since its clearance in Parliament and M K Stalin had already termed the law as unconstitutional that has collapsed the grounds of secularism, equality, and fraternity.
