The alleged racket has its base in the exams that were conducted in September 2019. The TNPSC had rolled out the group 4 exam to fill up about 9,400 vacancies for which the state witnessed more than 16 lakh people who appeared for the exam and the results were announced in the first week of December. It then came to the spotlight that the list of top hundred rank holders had the most number of candidates who appeared for the exams in Rameswaram and Keezhakarai centers in Ramanathapuram district.

Upon conducting the internal probe, TNPSC has last week, admitted that the scam was reportedly committed in Group 4 exams and about 99 candidates had opted to appear for exams in Rameswaram and Keelakarai centers with accord to the recommendation of the agents and after they completed their exams using the ink that would disappear after some time, these agents came to the picture where they allegedly took the answer sheets of 52 candidates of those 99 and written the correct answers and placed the sheets in the same answer sheet bundles.

Currently, the case has been probed by the CBCID wing of Tamil Nadu police and the department had arrested dozens including the agents for further interrogations. TNPSC had debarred these 99 candidates from appearing for the commission's exams for their lifetime.
