Tamil Nadu is winning the war against Covid-19: Zero deaths for the first time in two years!

In what has become a significant breakthrough in its fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, Tamil Nadu has breathed a huge relief as the state has reported zero Covid-19 deaths for the first time in two years. The development has come when the state and the country are just days ahead to mark the second anniversary of the nationwide lockdown. 

After bracing up the third wave of the pandemic that was at its peak during January, Tamil Nadu has been reporting a sharp downfall in fresh Covid cases for the past few weeks as the state is rising up for complete normalcy. The state, which has reported over 30,000 cases in a day, is now reporting around a hundred cases with a surge in recoveries.

The number of fatalities had been plummeting and the state has attained a level of zero Covid deaths for the first time in two years. The level was reported on Friday- March 11 and the death toll in the state stands at 38,023 so far as of Friday. Tamil Nadu has reported its first Covid death in March 2020 and the highest single-day death toll was recorded during the second wave of the pandemic in May 2021 with 10,186 deaths in a day. 

According to the state health department, Tamil Nadu has reported 19 deaths in this month so far as of Friday and 16 districts recorded zero Covid cases in the last 24 hours. On Friday, Tamil Nadu has reported 112 fresh Covid-19 cases, 327 discharges, and zero deaths. Overall, the state has recorded 34,51,710 cases so far as of Friday of which 1,461 are active, 34,12,226 were discharged, and 38,023 had succumbed to the viral infection. 

On Friday, Chennai has reported more cases with 42 followed by Coimbatore with 13 and Chengalpattu with 12. On the other hand, India has reported 4,194 fresh Covid cases in the last 24 hours, which had taken the total tally to 4,29,84,261. India has 42,219 active cases and the death toll has climbed to 5,15,714 with 255 fresh fatalities, as per the data released by the Union Ministry of Health at 8 am on Saturday- March 12.
